A 5 minutes walk from your Gite takes you to the Lac des Montagnes were there are cafes, restaurants, crazy golf and tennis courts.

As you stroll around the lake (which takes approximately 1 hour) you will find activities that children will love and adults also. There is a small child friendly beach with a water play area and life guard.

There is a wide selection of things for you to do on the mountain itself. These include fishing, golf, horse riding, lakes for swimming, rivers, cycling and walking and gorges.

There are ample picnic and rest areas on the roadside for stops. Five minutes drive from Montagne Noire Holidays is the medieval village of Hautpoul which bears the ruins of a castle and church, this hamlet was the original site of Mazamet, and is now watched over by an enormous statue of Mother Mary.

At the foot of the mountain (you can visit the wooden toy factory. There are other historical and beautiful places of interest which are just too numerous to mention, and if we tell you all about them now there'll be no surprises!


The closest town to Montagne Noire Holidays (8km). You can find everything you need here, supermarkets, doctors, hospital, pharmacies, boutiques, bars and restaurants. Mazamet has been built up over the centuries due to its involvement in the textile industry and many leather shops can be found here. There is a market held in Mazamet 3 days a week where you can buy locally grown produce and fresh flowers.


To visit the fortified town of Carcassonne is to be transported back to the Middle Ages. The “Cite” of Carcassonne is the largest fortress in Europe and has 14 towers. To get to the Castle you walk through the medieval town with its narrow, winding streets and many interesting shops (crafts and souvenirs etc).


Set in a beautiful location, the La Barouge Golf Club is a 20 minute drive from your Gite, and if you like swinging a club it is a challenging but enjoyable course.


The beaches of Narbonne are approximately 1 and a half hours drive away.


A truly beautiful 2 and a half hours drive from Mazamet and well worth a visit if you enjoy stunning scenery, interesting drives and duty free goods. Obviously if you stay during the skiing season you can be on the slopes at 9am and ski all day.


There are road signs for Barcelona on the Mountain. It's a 4 hour drive approximately but again worth it for a day of culture in Barcelona.
